(Photographs of Maurice Lewendon's medal provided by his son, Old Gaytonian Malcolm Lewendon)
Maurice Lewendon had an interesting and distinguished athletic career at Harrow County and was joint Senior Sports Champion (with Honey) in July 1923. In 1923-24 he was House Captain for Northwick House.
Maurice Lewendon was also active in Inter-School Sports:
On Thursday, July 19th, 1923, the School was represented at the sixth annual Inter-School Sports held at Stamford Bridge. All our supporters were hoping to see us carry off the Bowles Cup and the Junior Challenge Shield. Eventually we were successful in winning the former trophy, and were fourth in the junior competition. The whole School, the Staff and a few of their wives turned up "en masse"... In the senior events we acquired 24 points, thanks to the brilliant running and stamina shown by our representatives. We offer Lewendon our heartiest congratulations for gaining twelve of these points. Lewendon won the senior long jump with a good jump of 18ft. 6½ins., and the final of the 440 yards with an excellent sprint at the finish, covering the distance in 59secs.*
The medal is in a green leather box and was supplied by Jays of 142-144 Oxford St, London.
