In 1963, aged 26, He embarked on his journalistic career, on the editorial staff of 'Motor Transport'. In 1966 he became technical editor of the monthly magazine 'Commercial Vehicles'. In 1970 he went freelance and has been ploughing his own furrow in the 38 years since.)

Mair, J  (John Mair was a train enthusiast.  He was, while at school, much involved in SRUBLUK - The Society for the Reinvigoration of Unremunerative Branch Lines in the United Kingdom; It was an amateur group that lobbied against the Beeching axe that closed so much of the railway system.  Secretary of the Railways and Airways Society 1954-55.  Secretary of the Modern Languages Club 1954-55.  Vice-Secretary of School Debating Society 1954-55. He passed the Civil Service Executive Class Exam in 1955.)

Smith, P. J.  (Peter Smith left after Prob 6th and entered articles to become a Chartered Accountant instead of going on for A level.  He started the final year and left at the end of  the Rugby season. He was captain of the Under XV Rugby team, in the Cricket 1st X1 in 52/3 and Rugby 1st XV in 53/54.  He was in the 4th Harrow Scouts (Merrymen) and was a prefect in 53/54.)
