Browne, A D (Alan David Browne was in Form IVA 1939-40. Poem published in July
1940 Gaytonian. Serving in the Forces, November 1943. The youngest
serving officer in the Royal Navy in 1944. Worked as a surveyor and then
joined a company founded by fellow Old Gaytonian Graham McNair designing
childrens playground equipment. Captain of the Old Gaytonians Rugby Club
1950-56. Alan Browne died on January 17th 2001, aged 75.)

firm of insurance brokers. He volunteered for the Navy when he was 17 and
after passing the qualifying exams for signalman was posted to Malta in
1943. He was posted to the cruiser H.M.S. Spartan, which was bombed and
sunk by enemy aircraft in the landing at Anzio. He was missing and later
presumed killed.)

Good, R (Richard Good studied Quantity Surveying at the Air Ministry
from 1942-44, but was conscripted as a Bevan Boy in 1944, and worked as a coal
miner in Durham. After the war he continued to train as a quantity
surveyor, but in 1949 he enrolled at the National College of Horology in London,
and was awarded an Honours Diploma in 1951. He worked for various
companies and then set up his own, designing clocks. In 1976 he became a
Curator of Horology at the British Museum. Richard Good, FSA, FRHI,
Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, published six books
about clocks, watches, horology and clockmakers, and many magazine
articles. He died on December 29th, 2003.)
