awarded rugby colours in 1938. In 1941 he volunteered for the Fleet Air
Arm and was commissioned as a pilot in 1942. Sub-Lieutenant Bentley died on

Goldsack, R L (Robert Leslie Goldsack played Rugby for the 1st
XV. He joined the London Scottish Regiment (TA) in 1939, and volunteered
for the Glider Pilot Regiment in 1943. In September 1944 he took
part in "Operation Market Garden", the airborne assault at Arnhem.
He worked for the Shell International Petroleum Company after the war, with
foreign postings in China, Trinidad, The Phillipines, India, Bangladesh,
Indonesia and Pakistan. Bob Goldsack died on July 26th 2005, aged 84.)

active service in August 1940. His elder brother, Pilot Officer Desmond Irving,

Newman, J (Captain John Newman joined the Westminster Dragoons in
April, 1939, and obtained his commission in the Royal Tank Regiment in
1940. He was wounded at El Alamein and promoted Captain in January
1943. He was seriously injured on September 20th, 1944, and died five days
later.)

parachuting out of his airoplane during a raid over enemy territory)
Witherden, W H (Walter Harry Witherden joined the RAF in July 1942. He
was commissioned as Navigator. In December 1944 he left on a raid on Politz oil
fields near Stettin, did not return, and was presumed killed.)
