Carmichael, W (Flight Sergeant William Carmichael served with RAF
Bomber Command, and made 28 operational flights over enemy territory. He
transferred to Coastal Command, and his aircraft was attacked by enemy fighters
off the coast of Brest on June 9th, 1942. It was assumed that he was killed
instantaneously when his machine crashed.)

Cullerne, A P (Allan Cullerne was an outstanding athlete at School, and
later in the Old Gaytonians Athletic Club. The "Cullerne" Cup
for competition among the Fourth forms was presented by him whilst a member of a
Fourth form. He joined the RAF, and after long being posted as missing was
presumed killed.)

Earthrowl, C H (Cyril Henry. Squadron Leader Earthrowl was a
pilot in 427 Squadron, and was awarded the DFC. He became a captain in
B.O.A.C. Air Lines. A member of the Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators.)

Gray, D V (Corporal D. V. Gray, LRB, joined the Territorial Army and
was called to the Colours. In 1940 he took part in destructive raids on the
coast of France. He went to the Middle East and took part in the action at El
Alamein. He was killed on October 25th, 1942, while he was going to the
aid of a wounded man.)
Hargreaves, P J (Pilot Officer Philip Joseph Hargreaves joined the RAF
in May 1942, training first as a pilot and then as a navigator. On the night of
March 7th/8th 1945, he was navigator on a Halifax bomber, which set out to raid
Hemmingstedt, Western Germany, and failed to return.)

Hart, D F (Flying Officer Dennis Hart was called to the Colours when
war broke out, and in 1941 transferred to the RAF. He was killed in August
1944, during air operations in France.)

Hillier, P S A (Flight Lieutenant Hillier, DFC, RAF was a pilot who
went to the Middle East. He took part in raids on Italy, he was in Tobruk during
its first siege, and in June 1942 he was awarded the DFC for his gallantry in
operations near Sidi Resegh. He was killed on active service four months
later.)

Irving, D (Desmon Irving, Pilot Officer RAFVR was at School 1932 to
1935 when he left to go to Chard. He was killed in action over Dusseldorf,
Germany, June 30th, 1941. His younger brother, Bryan Irving, RAF, was
killed on active service in August, 1940. Both brothers were active
members of the 4th Harrow Scout Troop.)

Johnson, A E (Squadron Leader Allan Johnson was a commissioned pilot in
the RAF when war broke out, and obtained considerable experience in operations
with Spitfires. In June 1943 he lost his life off the East Coast.)

Jones, H C (Haydn Jones joined the RAF in June, 1940. On the last
day of his training as a navigator, the airoplane in which he was a passenger
crashed into the sea off Jurby, Isle of Man, on March 17th, 1941.)

Childrens Department, Home Office, 1966-68. Played key part in framing the
Childrens and Young Persons Act, 1969. He died in 1968.)

accident, October 7th, 1940. He was a member of the Harrow county Senior

Read, P A T (Flight Sergeant Philip Read, joined the RAF in 1940 and
became a fighter pilot. He died of wounds on active service on March 6th,
1943, and is buried at Kingsbury Old Churchyard.)

Thomas, L H (Flying Officer Leslie Thomas, RAFVR, was awarded Colours
for Cricket in 1936, for Rugby in 1937, and was Captain of cricket in his last
term at School. He had completed over 30 operations over France and Germany,
when his plane crashed on landing in December 1943. He and two other
members of the crew were killed instantaneously.)
